Doyle Brunson is the Master of Poker, a legend and nine time winner of the World Series of Poker events including two back-to-back world championships. His success at the poker table is unprecedented and though many try have tried, no-one has come close to equalling this great man’s achievements.

Brunson has been winning with good and bad hands all his life. From humble beginnings in rural Texas, he worked hard to make it to college on basketball and track scholarships. But sadly, an accident at his pre-season job shattered his leg and ended his NBA career before it had a chance to begin. His leg never did recover fully and to this day his place at the poker table is easily recognisable from the crutch standing nearby.

Brunson didn’t give up, and so to help pay his bills after the accident, he took up poker. Growing up as an outsider made him an incredible observer of people, and his skill at reading faces was his ace in the hole. But in 1962, just as his skill was developing and his luck was changing he was diagnosed with cancer and given three months to wrap up his affairs.

In true legendary style and with inspiring strength he called that bluff and the other guy folded, and 40 years later, Brunson is still at the table, and still winning.

Now at 71 Brunson shows no signs of slowing down. He is responsible for the best selling poker book of all time - Super/System, a complete guide to Texas Hold'em and other games of poker. He is a spokesperson for the new online poker website DoylesRoom.com, has written an autobiography and is in the process of writing a new book about the greatest hands he has ever seen.
